Burnley Municipal Choir was founded in 1920 and aims to encourage and support personal creativity through the shared experience of singing choral music and to contribute to and enrich wider community life through public performance.
Our membership is increasing year on year. We are a friendly and inclusive choir who are attracting growing audiences with our dynamic programmes of both familiar works and less well-known treasures.
We have an exciting partnership with East Lancs Sinfonia under our dynamic Music Director and attract outstanding international soloists to sing with us.

Our music director is Nigel Wilkinson, well known as an inspirational conductor. His musical accomplishments have been widely acclaimed by audiences and musicians alike during the past 35 years.
Nigel was born in Nelson and is a graduate of Manchester University and the Royal Northern College of Music. He has been the music director for both the Burnley Light Opera Society and the Burnley Gilbert & Sullivan Society. He is the founder and director of the East Lancs Sinfonia. He is music director and principal conductor of the Oldham Choral Society.

Our rehearsal piano accompanist is Paul Greenhalgh, who was born in Lancashire. A BMus degree from Cardiff University was followed by two post-graduate years at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. Paul appears regularly as recitalist, concerto soloist and accompanist at venues throughout the North West. He is Principal of the Blackburn School of Music and teaches piano at Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley.
